The Karonga district in the northern region of Malawi has been affected by a series of earthquakes. The tremors started on November 23, continued from December 6-12 and culminated on December 20 with a seismic activity of 6.0 on Richter scale. PPB’s factory manager, Liyaka Nchilamwela met with the president of Malawi, Bingu wa Mutharika, and PPB’s present primary research doctor, Indi Trehan. When the earthquakes began, PPB offered 5 metric tons of RUTF to be sent immediately to treat and prevent any cases of malnutrition in the area. PPB was one of the first donors and the President met with our staff and personally arranged for our RUTF to go to the northern district that same day.
